Western-style Bakery is popular in China
For many people, breakfast is one of the most important moments of the day, same for Chinese people. Unlike cakes and desserts, bread is just what young people need for breakfast, and more and more Chinese families are accustomed to eating western-style breakfasts such as bread and milk. In fact, with the changes in social life, people became also attracted by western food to experience different tastes.
In fact, Coffee, beverage and high-end food are more and more expanding in China. Consumers are nowadays mostly seeking a better standard of living and so they are changing their choice towards good quality products. As result, these industries are growing with the development of China. We can observe that many bakeries opened in a short time, surrounding first-tier and second cities’ landscapes in the country.
Western bakeries are particularly notorious for their know-how and expertise in this industry in China. Products with the label “French style” attract a lot of consumers who associated them with a healthier product.
Who are the main consumers to target?
Post-80th and post-90th generations became the main consumers. They are increasingly demanding personalized food and beverage, with strong character. New types of tea, private kitchens, fancy bread, and places are very popular in China. Also, notice that appearance and reputation are very important things in China.
By putting some brand’s creativities and personalities, it can rapidly make a difference from domestic competitors. Chinese consumers like to share on the social network new things and interesting places. A new brand can become hot very quickly in that way.
E-commerce platforms also participate to the bakery industry’s growth
At the same time, the exhibition also attracted e-commerce companies such as Alibaba and Jingdong to visit and purchase. In fact, online shopping has gradually become a trend for Chinese people to purchase home supplies but also food. Through these e-commerce platforms, consumers can access to abroad products.
Why is e-commerce useful for business in China?
The simplicity and convenience offered by e-commerce’s features save consumers from a lot of trouble. For new brands, developing online can be beneficial for at least 3 reasons:
- Instead of opening directly a store in China, the investment price is much lower to launch the store online. Tmall and JD.com are trusted for their services and for providing authentic and quality products.
- E-commerce platforms can help new brands to be visible among users, through events or sales and other strategies. Partnerships with them can help new brands’ promotion in China.
- Starting online can help the brand to try the market first and then decide to establish a physical store or not in China, according to customer feedback.
